Investing In Our Future: Schools, Libraries & Rec Centers

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Every dollar we spend on properly raising our City’s children today is thousands of tax dollars saved later. Bill Henry will:
v Commit more of the City’s general fund to education, to create an incentive system for public school administrators under which the school system would receive additional funding if it meets specific goals in educational achievement or community involvement
v Get kids off the corners by linking needed increases in the budget of the police department to equally-needed increases in the budget of the City’s libraries and recreation centers – if our children have more safe places to play and fun things to do, it will help keep them from doing things that lead to involving the police in the first place
v Support on-going efforts to secure $1.08 billion in court-mandated funding from the State, and use those funds to hire more teachers, create smaller class rooms, and refurbish older school buildings
