Bill's Platform
Revitalizing our Neighborhoods and Business Corridors
Belvedere Square’s rebirth has been an achievement. We need a councilman who will spread that kind of success throughout North and Northeast Baltimore. Bill Henry will:
v Introduce City Council legislation requiring the City’s housing department to create, maintain, and publicize a list of all houses in the City scheduled for condemnation, demolition, and/or rehabilitation, including scheduled dates for completion
v Reform the City’s tax sale process for abandoned houses and storefronts, giving purchase priority to neighbors, local small business owners, and community-based non-profits over absentee investors
v Look for ways to make it easier for the City to forgive liens on vacant and abandoned properties, to get each one back into the hands of responsible owners as quickly as possible
v Work with community groups and businesses to comprehensively rezone the York Road corridor, as well as the Alameda, Cold Spring, and Northern Parkway commercial districts
v Make the York Road, Alameda, and Loch Raven corridors comfortable places for people in the community to walk, bike, or take transit – better bus shelters, bike lanes, intersections with clear pedestrian crossings, and properly-maintained sidewalks would show that these streets are part of our community and not just a way for people from the county to get downtown and back
