Bill's Platform
Reducing Crime and Improving Quality of Life
A lot of politicians say that they will be “tough on crime” and “improve our quality of life” – but they rarely say how. Bill Henry will:
v Fight to bring the Baltimore City Police Department up to “full strength” - according to statistics provided by the Labor Commissioner to the City’s police union, the Police Department only has 2,932 officers when it should have 3,200
v Implement a “4th District Blue Chip-In” program, helping corner stores and other small businesses to hire local students to clean the streets and alleys around their establishments, using incentive packages with some combination of matching funds, tax credits, and façade improvement grants
v Encourage “Safety Partnerships” between community groups and the City’s police department, promoting real community-based policing that works with Citizens on Patrol, Block Watchers, and a fully-staffed police department
v Bring the computer-based CitiStat program out of City Hall and into the communities, so we all get to see firsthand how City agencies are doing, and hold agencies accountable, especially for trash collection, high grass and weeds on public property, and illegal dumping
